2022 Henschke Henrys Seven SGVM
Named for the Seven Sons of Henschke's Founder — A Vibrant Barossa Rhône Blend
The 2022 Henschke Henry's Seven SGVM is a vibrant, expressive Barossa blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Viognier, and Mourvèdre — named in honour of the seven sons of Johann Christian Henschke, who founded the estate in 1868. Richness, spice, and freshness in a more modern, balanced style: this is Henschke's most approachable and food-friendly red, and one of the most versatile wines in the store.
My Wine Man on Henschke
Henschke is one of Australia's most celebrated family wine estates — six generations of winemaking in the Eden Valley, home to Hill of Grace, one of the greatest wines in the world. Henry's Seven sits at the more accessible end of the Henschke range, but carries the same commitment to quality and the same Eden Valley/Barossa character that defines the estate. The SGVM blend draws on the Rhône tradition — Shiraz for structure and dark fruit, Grenache for brightness and lift, Viognier for floral aromatics, and Mourvèdre for savoury complexity and length.
Tasting Notes
Raspberry, plum, and boysenberry fruit on the nose, lifted by floral notes and savoury spice. Herbal and peppery detail adds interest throughout, while the fruit stays bright and well-defined. Medium to full-bodied with fresh acidity and fine tannins giving structure and a smooth, peppery finish. Balanced, not pushed too far in any direction — a wine that delivers depth and flavour with enough lift and energy to keep it easy to drink.
Style & Drinking Window
Medium to full-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Drinking very well now and will hold over the next 3–5 years. No decanting required — open and pour. A great all-rounder that works across a wide range of occasions and food pairings.
Food Pairing
A Rhône-style Barossa blend of this freshness and spice is built for the casual dinner table. We love it with Australian Oregano and Garlic Lamb Sausages (450g) from My Meat Man — grilled over coals and served with a fresh salad, the herby, savoury lamb sausages are a magnificent match for Henry's Seven's raspberry, plum and peppery Mourvèdre spice. An easy, generous pairing for any weeknight or weekend.
Why This Is a Smart Buy
At HK$249, Henry's Seven delivers Henschke quality in a more approachable, everyday format. More complexity than a straight Shiraz, but easier to drink than heavier styles — a very versatile, food-friendly wine from one of Australia's most celebrated family estates.
