1999 Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne
A Champagne Icon at 25 Years — Cristal from One of Reims' Most Celebrated Family-Owned Houses
My Wine Man on Louis Roederer
Louis Roederer is one of the great family-owned Champagne houses — founded in 1776 and still entirely independent today. Based in Reims, Roederer owns 240 hectares of vineyards across the finest Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites in Champagne. Cristal is Roederer's prestige cuvée and one of the most celebrated Champagnes in the world — created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II of Russia. The 1999 vintage, now 25 years in bottle, is a compelling expression of Cristal at its most mature and complex.
Tasting Notes
The 1999 Champagne vintage delivered a warm, generous growing season that produced fruit of exceptional ripeness and concentration. Luminous, deep golden-yellow with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose is complex and evolved — toasted brioche, honey, dried apricot, and hazelnut layered with a subtle mineral, chalky depth. Full-bodied and richly textured, with a creamy, generous mid-palate, vibrant acidity, and a long, complex, satisfying finish. Twenty-five years of bottle development have added extraordinary tertiary complexity — Cristal at its most profound.
Style & Drinking Window
Full-bodied vintage Champagne with exceptional richness, complexity, and length. Drinking magnificently now and will continue to hold and evolve through 2030. Serve in a large white wine or Burgundy glass at 10–12°C.
Food Pairing
The toasted brioche depth and hazelnut complexity of the 1999 Cristal make it a magnificent match for Australian Boneless Butterflied Chicken in Greek Style Lemon & Herb Marinade from My Meat Man. The wine's chalky mineral evolution complements the fragrant lemon, herb, and garlic notes beautifully — whether roasted in the oven for crispy golden skin, spatchcocked over charcoal, or pan-seared with a Champagne and shallot deglaze.
Why This Is a Smart Buy
At HK$4,999, the 1999 Louis Roederer Cristal is a serious investment in one of the world's most iconic and collectible Champagnes — with 25 years of bottle development that cannot be replicated at any price.
