2022 Torbreck The Steading Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre

The Steading is Torbreck's most celebrated and consistent wine — a Barossa GSM blend that has been delighting drinkers for decades. Made from old-vine Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre, it is the benchmark for what the Barossa does with this classic Southern Rhône blend. The 2022 is one of the finest releases in recent memory.

My Wine Man

This is for someone who wants a generous, aromatic, and utterly satisfying red that works at any occasion. The Steading is one of those rare wines that is both serious and immediately enjoyable — complex enough to reward attention, but approachable enough to open on a Tuesday night. A perennial favourite at My Wine Man.

Tasting Notes

Juicy, fleshy and aromatically abundant. Raspberry, mulberry and licorice on the nose, with star anise and a hint of aniseed adding exotic spice. The 2022 vintage brings a fine, fresh quality that lifts the wine beautifully — everything is in balance, with the fruit generous and the finish long and satisfying.

Style & Drinking Window

Medium to full-bodied with soft tannins and a long, spiced finish. Drinking beautifully now and will hold for another 5–8 years. Serve at 16–18°C. A natural match for slow-roasted lamb, duck, charcuterie, or a good cheese board.

Why This Is a Smart Buy

The Steading is one of the most reliably excellent wines in the Barossa — vintage after vintage, it over-delivers. At this price, old-vine Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre from one of the valley's most respected producers is exceptional value. A wine that belongs in every cellar.

Looking for a different style?

For a step up within the Torbreck GSM range, the 2023 Torbreck Old Vines Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre is more complex and structured. For a peer-level Barossa GSM from the former chief winemaker of Penfolds, the 2022 John Duval Plexus Barossa Valley GSM is exceptional. For a more accessible Torbreck red, the 2022 Torbreck Woodcutter's Shiraz is the place to start.

Life's too short for bad wine.
