Margaret River Chardonnay Entry Point — Poised, Fresh and Finely Composed

The Filius Chardonnay is Vasse Felix's entry point into Margaret River Chardonnay — and it's a seriously impressive one. Poised, fresh and finely composed, this is a wine that over-delivers at its price and clearly shows why Margaret River is regarded as Australia's benchmark region for Chardonnay.

My Wine Man on Vasse Felix. Vasse Felix is Margaret River's founding estate — established in 1967 by Dr Tom Cullity, it laid the foundation for the region's modern fine wine identity. Today, under the Holmes a Court family and chief winemaker Virginia Willcock, the estate produces some of Australia's most respected wines. The Filius range (“son” in Latin) is the approachable tier, made with the same philosophy as the flagship Heytesbury.

Tasting Notes

Bright pale straw in the glass. Aromas of rockmelon, lemon curd and green apple sit alongside subtle lemon herb butter, cucumber freshness and a gentle savoury note of nori. The palate is light to medium-bodied with a refined creamy texture, driven by crisp acidity and a fine limestone mineral line. The finish is dry, clean and lightly textured.

Food Pairing

A Chardonnay of this clarity and restraint pairs beautifully with clean, delicate proteins. We love it with Waitoa Free-Range Chicken Thigh Fillet from My Meat Man — lightly roasted with lemon herb butter, the tender boneless thigh is a magnificent match for the wine's citrus, stone fruit and subtle creaminess.

Why This Is a Smart Buy

At HK$154, this delivers benchmark Margaret River Chardonnay from one of Australia's founding estates. Precision, balance and drinkability at a price that significantly outperforms its category.
