2024 Chateau d'Esclans Cotes de Provence Rock Angel Rosé
The Serious Sibling — Provence Rosé with Genuine Depth, Texture, and Complexity
My Wine Man on Château d'Esclans
Château d'Esclans is the estate that redefined what Provence rosé could be. When Sacha Lichine acquired the property in 2006 and partnered with legendary winemaker Patrick Léon — formerly of Château Mouton Rothschild — the ambition was clear: to produce rosé wines of genuine grand cru quality, capable of standing alongside the world's finest whites. Whispering Angel made Provence rosé a global phenomenon. Rock Angel takes it further. Sourced from the estate's oldest Grenache vines — some over 50 years old — and fermented and aged in large French oak barrels, Rock Angel is a rosé of genuine complexity, texture, and depth: a wine designed for the table as much as the terrace. The 2024 vintage delivered excellent conditions across Provence — warm, dry summers tempered by the cooling Mistral wind, producing fruit of exceptional ripeness, concentration, and natural freshness. This is d'Esclans at its most serious and compelling.
Tasting Notes
Pale copper-pink with a luminous, golden-tinged clarity that hints at the wine's oak-influenced richness. The nose is immediately more complex and layered than a typical Provence rosé — ripe white peach, apricot, and fresh raspberry lead, followed by notes of warm brioche, toasted almond, wild herbs, and a subtle, stony minerality. The oak influence is seamlessly integrated — adding texture and complexity without imposing itself on the wine's fresh, aromatic character. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a rich, creamy texture, vibrant acidity, and a long, spiced, mineral finish with excellent persistence. This is a rosé that rewards attention — a wine of genuine depth and character that evolves beautifully in the glass.
Style & Drinking Window
Rich, textured, oak-influenced Provence rosé with exceptional complexity, depth, and length. Drinking beautifully now and will continue to develop through 2027–2028. Serve at 10–12°C in a large white wine or Burgundy glass to allow the wine's full aromatic complexity and texture to express itself. A brief 10-minute open before serving will help the wine open up.
Food Pairing
Rock Angel's richness, texture, and complexity make it one of the most food-versatile rosés in our range — a wine that bridges the gap between a great white and a great rosé. We love it with Australian Grass-Fed Lamb Backstrap from My Meat Man — pan-seared rare with rosemary, garlic and a knob of butter, the tender, herbaceous lamb is a magnificent match for Rock Angel's white peach richness, oak-derived spice and creamy, oak-aged texture. A grown-up rosé pairing for a grown-up wine.
