2024 Chateau d'Esclans Cotes de Provence Rock Angel Rosé 1.5 Litre
The Serious Sibling in Magnum — Provence Rosé with Genuine Depth, Texture, and Presence
My Wine Man on Château d'Esclans
Château d'Esclans is the estate that redefined what Provence rosé could be. When Sacha Lichine acquired the property in 2006 and partnered with legendary winemaker Patrick Léon — formerly of Château Mouton Rothschild — the ambition was clear: to produce rosé wines of genuine grand cru quality, capable of standing alongside the world's finest whites. Rock Angel is d'Esclans' most serious estate expression — sourced from the oldest Grenache vines on the property, some over 50 years old, and fermented and aged in large French oak barrels to produce a rosé of genuine complexity, texture, and depth. In magnum, Rock Angel takes on an additional dimension: the larger format slows the aging process, preserving freshness and aromatic precision while allowing the wine's oak-influenced richness and complexity to develop with even greater elegance and integration. A 1.5L magnum of Rock Angel is not just a wine — it is a statement of intent, and the perfect centrepiece for a serious table.
Tasting Notes
Pale copper-pink with a luminous, golden-tinged clarity that hints at the wine's oak-influenced richness. The nose is immediately more complex and layered than a typical Provence rosé — ripe white peach, apricot, and fresh raspberry lead, followed by notes of warm brioche, toasted almond, wild herbs, and a subtle, stony minerality. The oak influence is seamlessly integrated — adding texture and complexity without imposing itself on the wine's fresh, aromatic character. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a rich, creamy texture, vibrant acidity, and a long, spiced, mineral finish with excellent persistence. In magnum, the wine shows even greater freshness and aromatic lift — a rosé that rewards attention and evolves beautifully over the course of a long, leisurely meal.
Style & Drinking Window
Rich, textured, oak-influenced Provence rosé with exceptional complexity, depth, and length. In magnum, drinking beautifully now and will continue to develop through 2028–2029. Serve at 10–12°C in a large white wine or Burgundy glass. A brief 15-minute open before serving will help the wine fully express itself.
Food Pairing
A magnum of Rock Angel deserves a centrepiece to match. We love it with Australian Grass-Fed White Stripe Premium Lamb Rack (Frenched, Cap On) from My Meat Man — herb-crusted and roasted pink, the elegant frenched rack is the kind of carving-board lamb that matches Rock Angel's white peach richness, oak-derived spice, and creamy magnum-aged texture. A pairing built for a long, celebratory table.
