2022 Sevenhill Inigo Shiraz
From Australia's Only Jesuit Winery — Clare Valley Shiraz with 170 Years of History Behind It
The 2022 Sevenhill Inigo Shiraz is a dark, spicy Clare Valley Shiraz from one of Australia's most extraordinary and historic wine estates — Sevenhill Cellars, a Jesuit winery founded in 1851 and still operated by the Society of Jesus today. Named for St Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order, the Inigo label carries the weight of 170 years of winemaking tradition in every bottle.
My Wine Man on Sevenhill
Sevenhill Cellars was established in 1851 by Jesuit missionaries who came to the Clare Valley to serve the local community and needed sacramental wine for Mass. The estate has been producing wine continuously ever since — making it one of Australia's oldest wineries and the only one still operated by a religious order. The Inigo label is named for Inigo de Loyola — the birth name of St Ignatius, founder of the Society of Jesus — and represents the estate's most approachable range. The Clare Valley's cool climate, limestone soils, and long growing season give the wines their distinctive freshness and structure.
Tasting Notes
Dark and spicy with inky blackcurrant and raspberry fruit characters meshed to clove-cinnamon woody spice, tobacco notes, and touches of mint. Twiggy dried herb and earthy elements add complexity. A firm, dry red with good depth and shape — a wine of genuine Clare Valley character and honest winemaking.
Style & Drinking Window
Medium to full-bodied with firm tannins and a spicy, herb-driven character. Drinking well now and best enjoyed over the next 3–5 years. Decant for 30–45 minutes. Pairs beautifully with lamb, beef, pasta, or aged cheeses.
