2021 Grosset Piccadilly Chardonnay
97 Points James Halliday — “Purity, Balance and Length” — Grosset Piccadilly Adelaide Hills Chardonnay
Jeffrey Grosset is one of Australia's most revered and uncompromising winemakers — a craftsman of rare precision who has spent four decades producing wines of extraordinary purity and longevity from the Clare Valley and Adelaide Hills. The Piccadilly Valley is one of the Adelaide Hills' most prestigious and cool-climate sub-regions. Grosset barrel-ferments exclusively in French oak barriques (40% new) for 10 months, allowing only partial natural malolactic fermentation.
Tasting Notes
Pale quartz-green with a luminous crystalline clarity. Honeydew melon, nectarine, and subtle white grapefruit lead with cool restrained elegance, followed by a subtle cashew and toasted almond note from the French oak aging. The aromatics are precise and focused. On the palate, intense multi-layered and linear — nectarine and cashew flavours of exceptional concentration, vibrant natural acidity, and a long lingering finish. 97 Points — James Halliday.
Food Pairing
Grosset's Piccadilly Chardonnay's purity and cashew-nectarine complexity deserve the finest seafood. We love it with Canadian Wild King Salmon Fillet from My Meat Man — pan-seared with brown butter and tarragon or grilled with hazelnut crust, the rich oily flesh is a magnificent match for the wine's nectarine, cashew and Adelaide Hills linear precision.
