Classic Saint-Émilion Grand Cru — Plateau Terroir, Old Vines & Right Bank Elegance

My Wine Man on Château Louvie

Château Louvie is a well-regarded Saint-Émilion Grand Cru estate whose vineyards sit on the plateaus and slopes of the appellation — some of the most prized terroir in the right bank of Bordeaux. With an average vine age of 35 years, the estate produces wines of genuine concentration and typicity, blending 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc in the classic Saint-Émilion tradition. Following harvest, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel vats before the wine is aged for 12 to 18 months in barrel, of which 25% is new French oak — a measured approach that adds complexity without overwhelming the fruit. The result is an elegant, food-friendly Saint-Émilion that delivers the charm and character of the appellation at an accessible price point.

Tasting Notes

The 2021 Château Louvie is a classically styled Saint-Émilion Grand Cru with real charm and approachability. Deep garnet in the glass, it opens with a pronounced nose of ripe berry fruits — blackberry, plum, and red cherry — with vanilla oak and a whisper of woodland spice. On the palate, the wine is supple and smooth, with the soft, generous mouthfeel that defines great Merlot-dominant Bordeaux. Berry and plum fruits carry through the mid-palate, joined by woodland scents and a long, savoury finish. Elegant, charming, and very much in keeping with the character of the appellation.

Style & Drinking Window

Medium to full-bodied with a soft, supple tannin structure and excellent natural balance. A natural food wine — ideal with roasted game, wild rice and stuffing, or prime rib steak. Drinking beautifully now, and will continue to develop through 2028–2032.

Why This Is a Smart Buy

At HK$209, the 2021 Château Louvie delivers authentic Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from 35-year-old vines on the appellation's finest plateau terroir. This is classic right bank Bordeaux — supple, elegant, and food-friendly — at a price that makes it one of the most accessible and rewarding bottles in the store for lovers of French red wine.
