A Margaret River Icon from Australia's Founding Cabernet Estate

Vasse Felix planted the first vines in Margaret River in 1967 — and Cabernet Sauvignon has been the estate's defining variety ever since. The flagship Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon sits above the Filius and below the legendary Heytesbury, representing the estate's purest expression of Margaret River Cabernet at an accessible tier. Winemaker Paul Hotker draws on select parcels from the estate's mature vines, farming with precision and crafting with restraint to produce a wine of genuine regional authority. The 2020 vintage delivered excellent growing conditions across Margaret River — a long, cool ripening season that built exceptional flavour concentration and natural structural integrity.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby with a dense, inky core. The nose is classically Margaret River — blackcurrant, dark cherry, and dried herbs lead, followed by cedar, cigar box, and a fine graphite minerality. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with firm yet refined tannins and excellent depth. Flavours of cassis, dark plum, and bay leaf are framed by well-integrated oak and a long, savoury finish with lingering tobacco and earth notes. Structured, serious, and built to age.

Style & Drinking Window

Full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins and excellent cellaring potential. Drinking well now with decanting, and will continue to develop and reward patience through 2035+. Decant for at least 60 minutes. Serve at 17–19°C.

Food Pairing

The powerful cassis and cedar structure of the 2020 Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon make it a commanding match for Australian Cape Grim Grass Fed Sirloin Steak from My Meat Man. The wine's firm tannins and dark fruit depth complement the richness of steak beautifully — whether aged ribeye on the bone, slow-braised short rib with red wine reduction, or a classic standing rib roast with roasted garlic and thyme.

Why This Is a Smart Buy

At HK$319, the 2020 Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon delivers the full weight of Australia's most historically significant Cabernet estate — mature vines, a standout vintage, and Paul Hotker's precise winemaking. This is a wine that competes with Margaret River Cabernets at HK$500+ and offers genuine cellaring upside. For collectors and serious red wine drinkers, it represents exceptional value with a long runway ahead.
