Elegant, Mineral Margaret River Cabernet from the Pierro Estate

The 2020 Fire Gully Margaret River Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine of understated elegance and cool-climate precision — leafy, mineral, and possessed of a gentle chalkiness that sets it apart from the more powerful styles of the region. Fire Gully is the second label of Pierro, one of Margaret River's most celebrated estates, and this Reserve Cabernet is a beautiful expression of what the label can achieve.

My Wine Man on Fire Gully / Pierro

Pierro was established by Dr Michael Peterkin in 1979 and has become one of Margaret River's most revered producers — particularly celebrated for Chardonnay of extraordinary complexity and longevity. Fire Gully is the estate's second label, but carries the same meticulous attention to detail and the same cool-climate Margaret River character. The Reserve Cabernet is the finest expression in the Fire Gully range — a wine of real finesse and regional identity.

Tasting Notes

Leafy and delicate on the nose with layers of red and purple fruit. A cool mineral profile and gentle chalkiness on the middle palate highlight the fruit beautifully. Hints of coffee bean, mint, and bay leaf add complex layers to this understated wine, which finishes with salinity and great elegance. A Cabernet that rewards attention.

Style & Drinking Window

Medium-bodied with very finely milled tannins and a cool, mineral character. Drinking beautifully now and will continue to develop through 2030–2033. Decant for 45 minutes to open up the aromatics.

Food Pairing

The mineral elegance and finely milled tannins of this Cabernet call for quality beef that lets the wine do the talking. We love it with Cape Grim Grass-Fed Ribeye Steak from My Meat Man — the clean, grass-fed character and natural fat of the ribeye complement the wine's leafy, chalky profile without overpowering its understated elegance.

Why This Is a Smart Buy

At HK$299, the Fire Gully Reserve Cabernet delivers Pierro estate quality in a more accessible format. Mineral-driven, elegant, and built with real regional character — this is a wine for those who prefer finesse over power in their Margaret River Cabernet. A great choice for the dinner table or the cellar.
