Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2019 is a benchmark expression of one of Italy’s most iconic wines — rich, complex and built with the extraordinary depth and concentration that only the appassimento method and Allegrini’s mastery of Valpolicella can deliver.

Allegrini is one of the Valpolicella Classico zone’s most celebrated and respected estates — a family winery with roots going back to the 16th century, widely regarded as one of the defining producers of modern Amarone. Their Amarone is the benchmark against which all others in the region are measured.

My Wine Man

This is for someone who wants to experience one of Italy’s greatest red wines from one of its finest producers.

Amarone is unlike any other wine in the world. The grapes — primarily Corvina — are harvested and then dried for 90–120 days in special drying lofts called fruttai, concentrating the sugars, flavours and structure before fermentation. The result is a wine of extraordinary richness, complexity and longevity.

Allegrini’s version is the benchmark — powerful yet elegant, with the kind of depth and complexity that rewards patience and demands attention.

In my view, this is one of the finest Amarone available at this price — a wine that belongs in the same conversation as the greatest red wines of Italy.

What makes this wine stand out

This is all about the extraordinary richness and complexity that only appassimento can deliver.

Dark cherry, black plum, dried fig, dark chocolate and mocha sit at the core, layered with tobacco, leather, spice and the subtle bitter chocolate finish that is the hallmark of great Amarone.

The defining feature is the concentration — full-bodied with velvety tannins and a finish of extraordinary length and depth. This is a wine that fills the glass, the room and the memory.

Rich, complex and utterly compelling.

Style / drinking window

Full-bodied with dark cherry, dried fig, dark chocolate, mocha, tobacco and leather notes.

Velvety tannins and balanced acidity provide richness, depth and an extraordinarily long finish.

Drinking well now with decanting, with a peak drinking window extending well into the 2030s and beyond.
