2017 Mandois Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Brut
A Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs from One of Champagne's Most Respected Family Houses
My Wine Man on Mandois
Champagne Mandois is not a name you'll find on every wine list — and that is precisely the point. Founded in 1735 in Piéry, a Premier Cru village on the Côte des Blancs, Mandois has been family-owned and operated for nearly three centuries, farming their own vineyards and producing Champagne with quiet integrity. The house specialises in Chardonnay-driven Champagnes, and their Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru is the expression that best captures their philosophy: 100% Chardonnay from Premier Cru terroir, only slightly sweetened to allow the natural character of the fruit and the vineyard to speak without interference. The 2017 vintage was a generous, sun-drenched year in Champagne.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold with fine, elegant bubbles. Fresh and inviting, with white peach, green apple, and citrus blossom leading, followed by subtle notes of toasted brioche, almond, and a delicate chalky minerality from the Premier Cru terroir. Elegant and precise on the palate — lemon zest, white pear, and a hint of pastry cream build through a fine, persistent mousse to a clean, refreshing finish. The Premier Cru chalk speaks clearly through the fruit on a long, mineral, lingering finish.
Style & Drinking Window
Light to medium-bodied with fine, persistent bubbles and Chardonnay-driven precision. Drinking beautifully now and at its peak through 2027. Serve at 8–10°C.
Food Pairing
The Premier Cru chalk minerality and citrus precision of the 2017 Mandois Blanc de Blancs make it a beautiful match for Canadian Wild King Salmon Fillet (Sashimi Grade) from My Meat Man. The wine's delicate Chardonnay purity complements the rich, naturally sweet flesh of wild king salmon beautifully — whether served sashimi-style with citrus and dill, lightly seared with lemon butter, or roasted with white wine and fresh tarragon.
Why This Is a Smart Buy
Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs from a nearly 300-year-old family house at HKD 388 is exceptional value. Comparable Blanc de Blancs from better-known houses command HKD 629 to HKD 20,000+ for the same Premier or Grand Cru Chardonnay pedigree.
