2015 Torres Purgatori Costers del Segre
One of Spain's Most Celebrated Wine Families — A Catalan Red of Real Depth & Mineral Character
My Wine Man on Torres
Torres is one of the great names of Spanish wine — a family estate founded in 1870 that has produced benchmark Catalan reds for over 150 years. Purgatori is a single-estate red from the high-altitude Costers del Segre region — a blend of Garnacha, Cariñena and Syrah grown on rocky calcareous soils that produce wines of remarkable mineral depth and savoury complexity.
Tasting Notes
Deep crimson. Dark cherry, blackberry, dried herbs, savoury spice, cedar and a haunting mineral thread. The palate is medium to full-bodied with fine tannins and a long, mineral finish.
Style & Drinking Window
Medium to full-bodied with mineral character. Drinking well now and through 2028. Decant 30 minutes.
Food Pairing
A Catalan red with mineral, savoury character pairs beautifully with lamb. We love it with Australian Grass-Fed Lamb Cutlets from My Meat Man — quickly grilled with rosemary, garlic and smoked paprika, a magnificent match for the Purgatori's dark cherry, mineral and Spanish-style savoury character.
