2001 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz
A Two-Decade-Aged Rockford Basket Press — Drinking at Its Magnificent Peak
The 2001 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz is the Barossa's most iconic Shiraz at 24 years of age — a genuine rarity from one of Australia's most cult and uncompromising estates.
My Wine Man on Rockford
Rockford is one of the Barossa Valley's most revered and uncompromising estates, founded in 1984 by Robert O'Callaghan. The Basket Press Shiraz is Rockford's flagship and one of Australia's most sought-after red wines. A 24-year-old Basket Press on the open market is genuinely rare.
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet shading to brick at the rim. Dark plum, dried fig, leather, tobacco, dark chocolate, dried herbs and cedar. The palate is full-bodied with fully integrated tannins and a long, complex finish of remarkable depth and elegance for its age.
Style & Drinking Window
Full-bodied with integrated tannins. Drinking magnificently now at peak maturity. Decant 1 hour. Drink within 5–7 years.
Food Pairing
A 24-year-old Rockford Basket Press at peak maturity deserves the finest cut. We love it with Cape Grim Grass-Fed Tomahawk Steak from My Meat Man — reverse-seared low and slow before a hard finish on the grill, a magnificent match for the 2001's leather, tobacco and seamless mature Barossa complexity.
