Tasting Notes
Deep, rich mahogany in the glass with a warm, luminous amber glow. - 60ml Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
- 5ml maple syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 dash mole bitters (optional)
- Ice (large single cube)
- Garnish: orange twist, flamed
Method: Add the maple syrup and bitters to a heavy-based rocks glass. Add a large single ice cube and pour in the Double Oaked. Stir gently for 20–25 seconds to chill and dilute. Flame a wide orange peel over the surface to express the citrus oils, then run it around the rim and drop it in. Maple syrup is used here instead of simple syrup to echo the Double Oaked's own toasted wood sweetness — the result is an Old Fashioned of extraordinary richness and depth that showcases the second barrel's caramelised complexity at its very best.
Double Oaked Bourbon Smash
- 50ml Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
- 25ml fresh lemon juice
- 15ml simple syrup
- 6–8 fresh mint leaves
- Ice (crushed preferred)
- Garnish: sprig of fresh mint, lemon wheel, dusting of icing sugar
Method: Gently muddle the mint leaves in a shaker — press firmly enough to release the oils without tearing. Add the Double Oaked, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Fill with ice and shake hard for 10–12 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass over crushed ice. Garnish with a generous sprig of fresh mint, a lemon wheel, and a light dusting of icing sugar.
