A Polish Hill River Riesling from a Clare Valley Family Winery Established in 1983

Lemon, lime and a bracing rush of freshness: the 2025 Paulett Polish Hill River Riesling is a white for drinkers who like their fruit vivid and their finish lively. There is depth behind the citrus, making this more than an aperitif. Open it alongside a roast pork dinner and let its brightness bring the whole plate into focus.

My Wine Man on Paulett

Neil and Alison Paulett founded their family winery in 1983 in Polish Hill River, part of South Australia's Clare Valley. Today, their son Matt and his wife Ali helm the business, carrying the family story into a second generation.

Paulett's approach is small-batch and vineyard-led, choosing quality over yield and aiming to express the vintage, grape variety and distinctive character of its Polish Hill River site. For us, the appeal is that clear sense of purpose: Riesling with expressive fruit, freshness and enough flavour to earn its place at the dinner table.

Tasting Notes

A citrus-led white with lemon and lime at its core, joined by flashes of mandarin and grapefruit. The palate is racy and compact, with a bright line of acidity running through a concentrated core of fruit. Considerable flavour depth gives the wine presence without sacrificing its revitalising character, finishing with lingering citrus and a crisp, mouthwatering lift.

Style & Drinking Window

A taut, citrus-driven Riesling with a light-bodied feel, lively acidity and no red-wine tannic grip. Our suggested drinking window is 2026–2033 with good cellaring: enjoy it younger for its lemon-lime energy, or keep a few bottles to explore a more developed expression over time. Serve around 8–10°C, allowing it to warm slightly in the glass so the fruit is not masked by the chill. No lengthy decant is needed; a few minutes in the glass should be enough to let it open.

Food Pairing

The vivid citrus character and mouthwatering freshness of the 2025 Paulett Polish Hill River Riesling make it a refreshing match for Australian Frozen Valenca Free Range Pork Loin Roast from My Meat Man. The wine's lemon, lime and mandarin flavours complement the pork's gently sweet, succulent meat beautifully, while its bright acidity refreshes the palate alongside the roast's richer edges, whether oven-roasted with fennel and herbs, gently roasted with apple and sage, or cooked over indirect barbecue heat.

Keep the seasoning fragrant rather than heavily sweet, and serve with the resting juices or a light apple accompaniment. That leaves room for the Riesling's citrus detail while giving its concentrated fruit a savoury partner.

Why This Is a Smart Buy

At HK$188, this is an appealing way to explore Polish Hill River Riesling from a family winery with more than four decades of history. The attraction is the balance of immediate refreshment and genuine flavour depth: lemon and lime give it energy, while mandarin and grapefruit bring extra citrus detail. It is a versatile bottle for an unhurried dinner, with enough character to enjoy on its own and the acidity to stay lively beside roast pork.
