2019 Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
95–96pts | "A Superstar" — The Moss Wood Cabernet You Should Be Drinking Now
The 2019 Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most exciting Cabernets in the store — silky, sumptuous, and very fine, with red fruit, florals, spice, and chalky tannins that place it firmly in the superstar category. If you're a fan of Moss Wood Cabernet, this is the wine to drink while you wait for the flagship to come of age.
My Wine Man on Moss Wood Ribbon Vale
Moss Wood acquired the Ribbon Vale Vineyard in 2000, adding a second Margaret River site to their portfolio. Where the flagship Moss Wood Cabernet is built for the very long haul, Ribbon Vale is more immediately expressive — silkier, more floral, and more approachable in its youth. It draws on the same meticulous winemaking philosophy as the flagship, but delivers it in a style that rewards drinking now rather than waiting a decade. The 2019 is, by any measure, a remarkable wine.
Tasting Notes
Silky, sumptuous, and very fine on the palate — red-fruited, floral, and spicy, shaped by fine, chalky tannins that give the wine exceptional texture and length. Like the celebrated 2018 before it, this is a wine of extraordinary quality and finesse. A superstar at any price.
Style & Drinking Window
Medium to full-bodied with silky tannins and a floral, red-fruited character. Drinking beautifully now and will continue to develop through 2030–2033. Decant for 45 minutes to 1 hour to allow the aromatics to fully open.
Why This Is a Smart Buy
At HK$309, the Ribbon Vale delivers 95–96pt Moss Wood quality at a fraction of the flagship's price. This is one of the best value premium Cabernets in the store — a wine that punches well above its price point and consistently over-delivers on quality. Don't overthink it.
