2018 St Hallett Blackwell Shiraz
St Hallett Blackwell — Old-Vine Barossa Shiraz from a Heritage Estate
The 2018 St Hallett Blackwell Shiraz is a single-vineyard Barossa Shiraz from one of the valley's most historic estates — and from one of the great Barossa vintages of the 21st century.
My Wine Man on St Hallett
St Hallett is one of the Barossa Valley's most historic estates, founded in 1944 and producing benchmark Barossa Shiraz for over 80 years. The Blackwell is the estate's old-vine flagship — sourced from dry-grown Barossa vineyards and matured in American and French oak.
Tasting Notes
Deep crimson with profound concentration. Dark plum, blackberry, dark chocolate, mocha, vanilla bean and a touch of clove. The palate is full-bodied with ripe velvety tannins and a long, generous finish.
Style & Drinking Window
Full-bodied with velvety tannins. Drinking well now and through 2030. Decant 1 hour.
Food Pairing
An old-vine Barossa Shiraz from a great vintage deserves the finest beef. We love it with Australian Grass-Fed Cape Grim Rib-Eye Steak from My Meat Man — char-grilled medium-rare with bone-marrow butter, a magnificent match for Blackwell's dark plum, mocha and velvety old-vine Barossa tannins.
