95pts James Suckling — Veuve Clicquot's 2015 Vintage Brut: A Rich, Generous Expression of One of Champagne's Warmest Recent Harvests

My Wine Man on Veuve Clicquot

Few names in Champagne carry the weight of Veuve Clicquot. Founded in 1772 and shaped by the extraordinary Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin — the widow (veuve) who took control of the house at just 27 and transformed it into a global icon. The house style is built on Pinot Noir: rich, full-bodied, and generous. Veuve Clicquot produces a vintage Champagne only in exceptional years, and 2015 was unquestionably one of them. Chef de Cave Didier Mariotti has crafted a 2015 that is quintessentially Veuve Clicquot: bold, expressive, and immediately compelling, with the vintage's warmth amplifying the house's signature Pinot Noir richness.

Tasting Notes

Deep golden yellow with fine, persistent bubbles. Generous and inviting — ripe yellow peach, apricot, and brioche lead, followed by notes of toasted hazelnut, vanilla, and a subtle floral lift of acacia blossom. Full and generous on the palate, with the Pinot Noir backbone giving structure and weight to the ripe stone fruit and pastry flavours. Peach compote, brioche, and a hint of spiced honey build through a creamy, fine-bubbled texture to a finish of impressive length and warmth. 95pts James Suckling.

Style & Drinking Window

Full-bodied with a creamy mousse, fine persistent bubbles, and the generous warmth of the 2015 vintage. Drinking magnificently now, with continued development through 2028 and beyond. Serve at 10–12°C.

Food Pairing

The rich Pinot Noir warmth and ripe peach complexity of the 2015 Veuve Clicquot Vintage make it a beautiful match for Waitoa Free Range Chicken Breast from My Meat Man. The wine's toasted brioche complexity complements the clean, delicate flavour and tender texture of free-range chicken breast beautifully — whether roasted with herbs and lemon, pan-seared with a Champagne and mushroom cream sauce, or poached with tarragon and fresh peas.
