A Penfolds Blockbuster — The Celebrated 2010 St Henri at 15 Years, Drinking Magnificently

My Wine Man on Penfolds

Penfolds is Australia's most iconic wine producer. St Henri is the thinking collector's Penfolds — multi-regional Shiraz blended with the same precision as Grange, but aged in 50+ year-old large casks that impart virtually no oak flavour. The 2010 vintage — widely regarded as one of the great Australian Shiraz vintages of the 21st century — is now 15 years in bottle and at the very peak of its drinking window.

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet shading toward brick. The nose is profoundly complex — dark cherry, dried plum, leather, tobacco, dried herbs, scorched earth and a whisper of liquorice. The palate is full-bodied, with fine grainy tannins and a long, savoury finish. A profoundly developed St Henri from one of the greatest Penfolds vintages of the modern era.

Style & Drinking Window

Medium to full-bodied with grainy tannins and exceptional length. Drinking magnificently now at peak maturity. Drink through 2035 with extended decanting.

Food Pairing

A 15-year-old Penfolds St Henri at peak maturity deserves a centre-of-the-plate cut. We love it with Australian Grass-Fed Cape Grim Rib-Eye Steak from My Meat Man — dry-aged and char-grilled medium-rare with bone-marrow butter, a magnificent match for the 2010's dark cherry, leather, scorched earth and grainy mature tannins.
