Pantocrator — The Almighty

Pantocrator is a Greek word meaning "Ruler of All" — the title given to Christ in Byzantine iconography, depicted in majesty with the world in his hand. It is a name that carries weight, and Bodegas Taron chose it deliberately for their most ambitious wine: a single-vineyard Rioja Alta Tempranillo built for the ages, from a small, respected estate in Haro at the heart of Rioja's finest sub-region. When a wine is named Pantocrator, it had better deliver. The 2010 does.

The 2010 growing season in Rioja is spoken of in reverent tones. A long, cool summer followed by a warm, dry autumn produced grapes of extraordinary concentration, structure, and natural acidity — the combination that defines wines built to age for decades. Critics and producers alike regard 2010 as one of the greatest Rioja vintages of the 21st century. Fifteen years on, the wines from this vintage are entering their prime, and the Pantocrator is no exception.

Fifteen Years of Contemplation

Deep garnet in the glass, the 2010 Pantocrator opens with aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry, and violet — a fragrant, complex bouquet that speaks of both age and exceptional raw material. The palate delivers gorgeous depth: cassis, black plum, mocha, and rose petal woven into a web of chewy, structured tannins.
